Right now, the European Commission is preparing its final response to Fur Free Europe, the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) that reached 1.5 million validated signatures calling for an end to the farming of animals for fur. Despite the fact that all scientific evidence clearly points to the need for a total ban, there is a real risk that less ambitious options may be adopted, such as stricter standards that would still allow animals to be confined in cages.
- This is not what citizens demanded.
- This is not what science recommends.
- And this is not a coherent animal welfare policy for the European Union.
The final decision will be taken before the end of March, but there is still time to influence it. Between January and March, we are launching a final push to put pressure on the College of European Commissioners, alongside communication actions and visibility efforts in Brussels.
What can you do?
Use the form to send a direct message to EU Commissioners, urging them to respect the voices of 1.5 million European citizens and the scientific evidence. Let’s remind them that a total ban is the only decision that truly aligns with the EU’s commitments to animal welfare, environmental protection, public health, and European democracy.
The time to act is now. Influence works best when it is applied early, so don’t wait until the final weeks. Every message counts to ensure we do not miss this historic opportunity to put an end to one of Europe’s cruelest industries.
