La industria peletera noruega siempre se presenta como respetuosa de los estándares de bienestar animal, sin problemas legales. Pero durante el verano de 2008, activistas de la Red por la Libertad Animal (Network for Animal Freedom) grabaron en vivo la situación de más de 100 granjas peleteras (escogidas al azar), es decir, un 20% del total de granjas de toda Noruega. En el lugar tomaron fotografías, y según el testimonio de uno de los activistas: "Los animales tenían heridas profundas, sin tratar, mutilaciones, infecciones oculares y miembros rotos. Era terrible. Es tiempo que la gente vea qué les hacen y cómo viven los animales en las granjas peleteras." Frente a este hecho, OIPA Internacional hace un llamado para enviar la siguiente carta de protesta al gobierno noruego, solicitando el fin de las granjas peleteras. I urge you in the strongest possible terms to use your influence within the Norwegian government to ensure that these shameful violations of even the most basic animal welfare standards are immediately investigated and that the offenders are suitably punished.
Raising and killing animals for their fur is not an acceptable practice in a civilised society.
Many countries – including the whole of the UK – have already put a stop to this barbaric practice, and it is high time for your country to join them.
